From the moment we all met, it seemed that we all hit it off, and what started as a trip into the unknown for me (having never had any real instruction on the fishing) turned into one of the best days instruction I have ever had (I know technical and management courses are not really comparable !). As part of the instruction to get a whole load of fish on the bank was absolutely brilliant, and as you said, those sorts of days are just not the norm!!
The way you manage to convey the concepts that you are teaching, is from my perspective absolutely spot on. As I said earlier I have never had any real instruction for fishing, and as such have nothing to compare with, but I really do feel that you managed to convey fairly complex principles in a way that is easy to grasp, from my perspective of having a vague idea of whats what, not WHY, and it is the why that has really helped. I think the pace of the day was right for me, (although I know given the opportunity i would have had the rods out in the first hour or so) but the addition of having your rods out allowing the action to commence regardless, is a great move.
Instruction on marker setup was absolutely spot on, preparing the marker rod is something that I will carry with me for a long time, as it has closed off all possible problems i have encountered over the years.
Spodding. I have really struggled with spodding, and it has always gotten the better of me. The practice we put in yesterday, has changed my opinion, and it is something i will use as a mainstay going forward. With application we will both benefit from the spodding, and i am looking forward to putting in some bank time with the spod (although I feel like i had seven shades kicked out of me overnight "I ACHE!"). The spod mix is definitely going to be put to good use.
I have to say, that at the end of the day, to have both my rods go off within minutes of each other was the most gratifying sight. To prove both the bottom strategy and the zig rigs was fantastic (I have tried to use them in the past and failed dismally), I would probably have sat behind my rods all day on a bottom bait (probably a bloody boillie) and may have caught the last fish of the day (but probably not!!)
Finally I want to thank you for the enthusiasm that you imparted throughout the day (even after buggering your rod!). It has renewed my enthusiasm for carping, and will hopefully stand me in great stead for our return to the club waters.
Anyway, enough of my waffle, many thanks for a great day, it was a revelation.
