As a novice angler I had the fortunate pleasure of meeting Mr. Gemson whilst I was making a very difficult job of trying to land a small carp at a day ticket water. He was about to fish the same water with a friend but immediately came to my aid having not even set up his rods when he saw me struggling. He then proceeded to set up his gear and I watched in disbelief as he caught and landed the same amount of fish in fifteen minutes as I had been trying to catch all day! I was flabbergasted and risked a potential reproach by making few tentative questions about the techniques he was using. Not only did he generously and patiently answer all my questions but then went out of his way to immediately rectify some techniques that had led me to under perform that day resulting in me catching a lovely PB tench at the end of the day.
We later met up at different water where Mr. Gemson restored my faith in angling as I landed eight beautiful carp each one bigger than my previous Personal best.
Mr. Gemson is not only passionate about angling but he is also passionate about passing on his huge angling knowledge to those to ask him. He is an extremely patient man and most importantly does not consider any question without merit. He calmly observes his pupils before making gentle and appropriate suggestions for them to improve their technique. He makes great personal sacrifices and will not rest until he feels his pupil has achieved often more than expected and will introduce new baits and rigs in a constant search for his pupil to achieve that dream catch. His passion towards angling also extends to the very fish he actively catches and treats all catches with compassion before returning them to the water.
He has made my interest in angling reignite and thanks to him on a recent fishing trip using techniques he taught me I caught well whilst all around me were blanking.
