Having dabbled with carp fishing on and off for a year or two I thought it be about time to kick start my faltering career and invest in some carp lessons. In which case I found Smart Carping on the internet and took the plunge and booked a 12hr session.
It was from here that I knew the whole experience would be worthwhile as a friendly phone call from Ian put any worries I had at ease as we talked about my fishing experience and what I thought that I might like to focus on enabling Ian to customise a session tailored to the level I was at and what I wanted to do.
We met at the Thorpe Lea lakes at 7.00 where we chatted about the lake and the swims and what the plans were for the day. With that done the kit was unloaded and away we went to set up shop on the bank side.
Everything that Ian did was explained clearly with great examples of how and how not to do things and some brilliant tips of how to make what used to seem daunting such as knots/rigs etc seem now a lot more attemptable. I will now definitely not be wasting money on pre-made rigs!!!
The whole day was set up methodically from how to choose a swim and what features to look for to setting up tackle to the ultimate goal of landing a carp. And did we land some carp!
First reel screamed off at about 11 to what was a new P.B of 14lb, this was a sign of things to come with Ian as all in all I landed 6 doubles including two 19lb carp, two 16 lb carp, 12lb and a 9lb.
I really recommend anyone even if they are a season carper, to experience Ian's unique and friendly style of coaching! I am already planning a second lesson with Ian and know that it well definitely be money well spent!!!!!
