I first 'met' Ian through the CEMEX Angling website forum, where I placed a post asking about a local lake, Ian was one of the first to reply and was very helpful indeed, telling me all I needed to know. I had been away from the carp fishing scene for 5 years, and really wanted to get back into the swing of things. Not only did Ian offer me his knowledge of the said venue but even offered to take me out for a days fishing!
Anyway, 3/4 weeks later myself and Ian and another friend turned up to fish the lake and we were armed with what Ian had advised us to bring, to cut a long story short, we absolutely slayed the place! Ian had the tactics spot on, and I went home really pleased having enjoyed a great days fishing and some superb company. I learnt a lot that day, and it really fuelled my excitement for the sport, you only have to spend 5 minutes talking to Ian about fishing and you will realize that here you have a man who has two main skills, his fishing and his ability to convey his thoughts and ideas to others in a very understanding, clear and precise manner.
I wasn't a complete novice, far from it, but even still I learnt a hell of a lot of new ideas and refreshed some things I had forgotten about in my 5 year absence from the sport, Ian's patience is un-surpassed and his knowledge stemming from his very successful match fishing days has now expanded making Ian a very competent carp angler and a superb teacher. That first meeting forged a new friendship for me, not to mention some successful fishing trips at a variety of venues, using many different methods and tactics, and long may they continue.
